Lake Naivasha is located about 90km (50 miles) east of Nairobi, and is easily accessible. Most tourists travel by road with a tour operator.

Lake Naivasha is the highest of the Rift Valley lakes, at 1,884 metres (6,181 ft). The lake has an average depth of 6 metres (20 ft), with the deepest area being at Crescent Island, at a maximum depth of 30 metres (98 ft). You can visit the lake any time of the year. Due to its high altitude the region is much cooler than the savannahs and coastal plains.

Lake Naivasha’s proximity to Nairobi means that it is a popular weekend escape for city dwellers. If you visit between Monday and Thursday, the stunning scenery will not be interrupted by city dwellers.
Lake Naivasha is famous for its strong populations of hippos and flamingos. There are over 1,500 hippos in the area, and you are almost guaranteed to see one. The lake is a birder’s paradise as it is home to over 400 bird species. Lesser and greater flamingos flock to the lake, forming a wash of bright pink across the lake’s surface.
